"I'd taken several wrong turn's in my career, and despite being outwardly successful, inwardly I was in turmoil. I became withdrawn and sedentry and put on several stone. Phil enabled me to 'unpick' not only what I disliked about my job, but also the underlying reasons causing me to make poor career and life choices. " Andy - I.T. Sales.

What is Life Coaching?

Life coaching is a relatively new idea in the U.K., but is becoming increasingly popular with individuals and companies alike.  The key to understanding life coaching is in the title.

First, it’s about life, or more specifically, your life.  It’s about creating the life you want.
Second, it’s about coaching.  We are all familiar with the idea of a sports coach.  He is someone who supports and encourages for sure, but he also someone who is task orientated and focussed on results.

Put these two things together and you get someone who is committed to helping you achieve the goals you set, and is prepared to get tough if you start flagging!

The contrast with therapy is stark.  In counselling the emphasis is on the interpersonal relationship with the therapist.  The idea is that there is ‘something wrong’ with the client, and that a ‘therapeutic relationship’ will put right.

Life coaching assumes that you are fundamentally O.K., and can therefore be talked to more robustly, and, if your slacking, toughly.

After a number of initial sessions to get us started, coaching is mainly done over the telephone and by email.  I tend to use regular but short telephone conversations to motivate you.  I use more lengthy telephone calls or meetings at approximately monthly intervals.  You don’t have to live in Manchester, therefore, to benefit from my expertise.

“Coaching is about dreaming the dream and turning it into reality.  No excuses.” …
